High Up On the Wire

To the spotlight we aspire.
It's a circus, it's a show
for the audience below
craning neck and straining eye
as we perform up in the sky,
high up on the wire.

High up on the wire
undistracted we must be
for a whole world waits to see
what wonders we'll perform;
hearts down there will warm
as we go higher.

High upon the wire
there is much inside of me
that even you here cannot see
as we find balance up above
seeking lightness like a dove
while we perspire.

High upon the wire
without net, so much at stake
knowing everything can break,
a single movement can undo
the tensioned balance that holds true
this strained desire.
